WELCOME TO THE HOME OF THESOUTHWESTERN AMATEURSince 1915, the longest running amateur golf tournament in the Western United States |
|

The Southwestern Golf Association is also know as
the SWGA. Its sole purpose is to conduct the Southwestern Men's
Amateur Championship.
The Board of Directors of the SWGA acts as the Tournament Committee for
the Championship.
They are currently the sole sponsor of the Championship
and volunteer their time and resources to raise funds for the SWGA as
well as conduct the event.
The Southwestern Board of Directors has stated their goals as threefold:
First, to provide these gifted players with a chance to showcase their
talents among stiff competition;
Second, to administer an event which is "on par" with other major
amateur events, and even some professional ones; and
Third, to continue the association's charter of giving back to the game
of golf.
The Southwestern Amateur, even with its historical prestige, is not immune to
the problems faced by other non-profit groups seeking a tournament site and
sponsorships. The Southwestern Golf Association wants to keep the entry fees
reasonable for the mostly college age players, and at the same time secure
sites that challenge their talents. Golf is big business these days, and
golf courses and resorts are flooded with requests for either free tee-times,
or special deals. While most requests are from worthy causes, the facilities
are hard-pressed to give it away, so it must make economic sense for everyone.
Finding a cooperative site within budget is one of the greatest challenges in
these current economic times.
As such, the Board recognizes the site of the 95th annual event,
Sycuan Golf Resort as one of those cooperative facilities. The Board also
extends its thanks to the members of the golf club for giving up their course
for the duration of the event.
