Founded in 1983, the Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA) is a non-profit organization that introduces Arizona’s youth to the game of golf and helps junior golfers develop golf and life skills through competitive programs and tournaments. In addition to developing programs at schools and assisting Arizona golf courses with their junior programs, the JGAA conducts more than 100 programs and activities, including etiquette clinics, tournaments, and college prep seminars throughout Arizona each year.
Our mission is to educate, motivate and inspire future leaders through the game of golf.
Established in 2009 by five women in Houston, Texas, the Boot Campaign is a national non-profit, 501(C)(3), non-partisan charity dedicated to promote patriotism for America and our military community; raise awareness of the unique challenges service members face during and post-service; and provide assistance to military personnel and their families, past and present.
Combat boots are standard in the armed forces community; they are a recognized marker of military service around the world. Retail sales of combat boots, apparel, and mission-focused merchandise, together with general public donations and corporate sponsorships fund programs that support military families. These efforts extend to all generations of military personnel who endure significant physical, emotional, and circumstantial hardships resulting from their service and sacrifice.
Among Boot Campaign’s key messages is “It’s not about the war, it’s about the warrior!” Boot Campaign is one of the fastest growing charities in America with donations of over $4M last year. It is a unique organization in that it “focuses on connecting the 99% of Americans who have never served with the 1% that has/does.”

There is a new amateur tournament in the immediate area of Desert Mountain. It is the “Sizzler Amateur” and will be held from June 10-13 at the Troon North Golf Club with June 10 being the Practice Round and there is no cut. Troon North is just a few miles from us.
Although the final two days overlap our practice rounds on June 12 and 13, tee times at the Sizzler would be early in order to have time to either play our courses or review them in a golf cart.
Remember, Desert Mountain offers players who don’t advance, the ability to play two of the other Jack Nicklaus courses. Therefore, a player entering both tournaments could play up to 10 rounds of golf on some of the best courses in the country and could stay at the same accommodations for the entire time.
Coach Roy Edwards from Colorado and Joe Jensen from Wyoming are organizing the “Sizzler Amateur”, they also organize the “Saguaro” held during the Christmas Holidays
The Desert Mountain Club and the SWGA signed a contract, dated September 15, 2014, to hold the tournament through 2019, with a provision for annual renewals.
At the 2017 Shell Houston Open, Southwestern Golf Association President, John Ranslem, met with former Southwestern Amateur champion JT Poston (2013).
JT earned his PGTour card by ending up in the top 25 on the Web.com Tour in 2016. He has made the cut in most of the 2017 PGA events he has entered.
At the Genesis Open he was paired in the first two rounds with Kevin Dougherty, our 2012 champion and first runner up to JT in 2013. Read more....
