Corporate, retail and individual donors are invited to become a sponsor of the 101st annual Southwestern Amateur golf tournament to be held at Desert Mountain June 14-17, 2017. Desert Mountain is the new home of the event through 2019.
One of the country’s leading events for top-ranked amateurs, the Southwestern Amateur is the longest-running men’s regional tournament in the southwestern United States and is open to all amateur players demonstrating a high level of competitive success. Historically, the majority of players have been highly-skilled college golfers ranging in age from 17-25 from the United States and a host of international participants. Through the years, the tournament has helped launch the careers of many PGA champions including former SWGA champions Nick Watney, Mark O’Meara, Corey Pavin, Craig Stadler, Tom Pernice, Jr., Jay Haas, Ryan Palmer and Ted Purdy.
The Southwestern Golf Association (SWGA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that supports the tournament and promotes amateur golf in the Southwest. It has been the sole funding source for the tournament, other than player entry fees and limited sponsorships.
The move to Desert Mountain, with its renowned Nicklaus Signature courses, world-class practice facilities, and on-property housing, is expected to raise the visibility of the tournament, as well as elevate it into one of the nation’s top amateur tournaments.
However, in order to reach national stature the SWGA is seeking sponsorships that are needed. For the past several years, golf rounds have been down 2.3 percent across the country. One of the best ways to rekindle interest in the game is with young amateur golfers. This is your opportunity to contribute to the next generation of golf stars.
We offer you or your company an opportunity to sponsor, within your budget, the tournament and these young players in these areas:
Daily Lunch Hole
Sponsor Tee Prizes
Practice Round Transportation Player Handbook
Player Dinner Water/Gatorade Website
In return for your commitment, your organization will be recognized in various promotional ways, from signage to the player handbook, as well as through media exposure generated for the tournament and its players. In addition, participation will not only demonstrate your support of the Southwestern Amateur but could potentially create new relationships within the SWGA and the local golf industry.
If you would like to learn more about these opportunities, please contact John Ranslem, SWGA President, at 480-695-4071 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Donations to better the tournament are gratiously accepted.
Participants in the tournament are all amateur golfers, the majority of who are between the ages of 18 and 25. These players are from a pool of the highest ranked amateur players in the world. Some have previously played in major USGA amateur championships, NCAA championships, and other highly ranked amateur events. Most are still in college and play in amateur tournaments all over the world prior to becoming professionals.
It is extremely important to these players to minimize their expenses and help from host families is critical to them selecting tournaments in which to participate.
Having a young player in your home can be very rewarding.
Since the tournament will be coming to Desert Mountain for several years, a committee has been formed to coordinate housing.
If you think you might be interested in being a host, please contact Donna Ranslem at email@example.com. You will then be provided with some materials for your review.
At the 2017 Shell Houston Open, Southwestern Golf Association President, John Ranslem, met with former Southwestern Amateur champion JT Poston (2013).
JT earned his PGTour card by ending up in the top 25 on the Web.com Tour in 2016. He has made the cut in most of the 2017 PGA events he has entered.
At the Genesis Open he was paired in the first two rounds with Kevin Dougherty, our 2012 champion and first runner up to JT in 2013. Read more....
Enjoy Desert Mountain for the week!
For players who miss the 36 hole cut, Desert Mountain has agreed to provide playing access to two of its other Jack Nicklaus Signature Courses on Friday and Saturday of tournament week. So plan to stay the week!
The longest running amateur golf tournament in the southwestern United States returns for a third year at Scottsdale's premier private golf and recreational community.
